How to Nail the Velvet Trend in 2017 Like a Pro

It used to be the definitive sign of opulence. But we’ve embraced velvet with open arms, and brought it into our everyday wardrobe. Best of all? It’s no longer reserved for parties.

Just look at how Jacqueline Fernandez wore her Raquel Allegra sweatshirt and joggers from Le Mill to the airport for a red-eye. Or Kendall Jenner who added a denim jacket to her airport look. Let’s count the ways you can wear it: as a slip dress for a night out, as a sweatshirt to live in all weekend, as dainty sandals to elevate any outfit, as a day dress to brunch, or as evening coats to that elegant dinner party your friend had you meticulously RSVP for.

Celebrity stylist Allia Al Rufai has some ideas on how you can wear it:

  • Velvet blouse, Dries Van Noten (Photographed by Sohil Lalani)
  • Velvet slip-ons, Ancient Greek Sandals (Photographed by Sohil Lalani)
  • Drape velvet top and trousers, Dries Van Noten (Photographed by Sohil Lalani)
  • Velvet 'Taygete' bow sandals, Ancient (Photographed by Sohil Lalani)

Most of all, we’re glad we can retire our irons for a bit! This prim Altuzarra dress sure doesn’t need it. Nor does the slouchy Dries Van Noten mustard top. Celebrities are already giving it a spin. Go on, pick favourites!
