The 101 on Wandering by Giorgia Gabriele

Anchored in Bologna but fuelled by inspiration from around the world, Wandering debuted last season with a sophisticated capsule collection. The brainchild of fashion buyer turned designer Giorgia Gabriele celebrates the spirit of travel and discovery.

Their summer edit (housed at Le Mill) is a nod to Ainù communities that lived through Northern Japan and Sachalin Isle. Think statement sleeves, dresses and mix-and-match-worthy separates with enchanting motifs and embroidery.

We settled down for a chat with Gabriele for a 101 on the label:

On making the switch to fashion design:

“I took my first steps in fashion as a buyer at L’Inde Le Palais, the decision to establish my own brand – one that would reflect my taste and lifestyle, and my attention to research – came so naturally.”

On the thrust of the label:

“I wanted to create a line that would represent me; folksy and romantic at the same time. Each collection speaks of a journey, a journey made or one yet to be undertaken. I truly believe that every time you wander, you search for your place in the world.”

On staying true to her style:

“I don’t like to chase the market or fashion trends, which are veering towards unisex pieces these days. I design very feminine clothes, because I have a precise idea of the Wandering woman.”

On summer trends she swears by:

“I could never leave jeans out of my wardrobe. There are two types of Swarovski embellished denims in my collection – a fierce pair of white skinnies for the day and a cooler pair of black palazzo pants for the night.”

On her favourite escape:

“It’s a secret place in Sardinia, in Porto Cervo. It’s a small creek that you can only get to on a boat – you can really feel the magic!”
