Decoding the DNA of Zimmermann
Summer is synonymous with billowing dresses. This time we’re obsessing over powder pinks and dusty blues, generously strewn with posy patterns and intricate lace. Australian label Zimmermann’s designs are perfectly in sync with that endless summer state of mind; reminiscent of blue waters, cloudless skies and coolies by the beach. Whirl all that together, and you have sartorial optimism apt for any sunny holiday.
Since 1991, Zimmermann has served up a mix of ready-to-wear and swimwear, which has fast found a place on every jet-setter’s wardrobe. Fusing the two, and presenting them consistently to the world (including Le Mill) has made the label a success story for the fashion annals. From starting in one corner of the world to becoming every celebrity’s summer-closet essential, the sister-duo behind the label have experienced a whopping transatlantic movement. Here’s dissecting the DNA of the brand that’s the very definition of fun-in-the-sun:
It started in the land down under.
Sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann started the namesake label over 25 years ago in Sydney, Australia. Tucked away in that part of the world had its perks. “We create collections that are fresh, feminine and optimistic, and we do that against the backdrop of our unique way of life in Sydney,” Nicky told Forbes.
It’s summer dressing at its best.
The secret recipe to their success: Their use of effervescent colours, flirty silhouettes and eye-catching details are a testament to a girly girl’s wardrobe. The best part? You can wear them anywhere in the world — whether it’s Sydney, New York, London or Mumbai.
It gets a lot of love from celebrities.
From Kendall Jenner, Priyanka Chopra, Miranda Kerr to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley — the pretty-as-a-picture dresses come It-girl approved.
It’s rising up the fashion ranks. Fast!
Garnering its following in the fashion elite, Zimmermann moved its shows to the New York Fashion Week calendar as a portal to the world. With new addresses around the world in New York’s Meatpacking District and London’s buzzing Mayfair, there’s no stopping Zimmermann now.
