Jonathan Simkhai’s Milestone Moments
The New York label makes its India debut this month as it drops anchor at Le Mill. We look back at the eight year old label’s milestone moments.
Simkhai started his fashion innings at 14 years of age, working at a clothing store. He cut his teeth at FIT and Parsons, and moved swiftly from buying and merchandising to design – to launch his eponymous label in 2010.
His first major show was in Fall 2011, at New York Fashion Week. It had everyone gushing about this young designer who was adept at masculine tailoring.
Soon after, in 2013, he participated in the CFDA Fashion Incubator programme, which supports budding designers. And by 2014, he was nominated for the prestigious International Woolmark Prize.
He went on to win CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2015.
Drew Barrymore was the first celebrity to be spotted in his work. She wore a dress she bought from the label to her engagement party – understandably, Simkhai was over the moon! Today he dresses the hottest names including Gigi Hadid, Jourdan Dunn, and Kristen Stewart.
In 2016, Simkhai added swimwear to his list of covetable offerings. The 50 piece edit was equal parts sporty and cool, and covered a muted palette of black, white and navy, with hints of red.
Athleisure is here to stay. With that foresight, Simkhai launched his line of active-wear in collaboration with Carbon38. His signature motifs and cuts were in place too!
