Saint Laurent ‘It’ Bags: We Round Up Our Favourites
What does it take to make an ‘It’ bag? It’s a careful mix of style, function and that intangible thing we call buzz. It prompts the celebrities to get in line, makes bloggers swan around fashion weeks and makes you and me curious. Which is why we’re obsessed with Saint Laurent’s ‘Sac De Jour’ – that elegant tote has risen sharply on the fashion index. We haven’t witnessed this level of hype since YSL released the ‘Muse’ tote in 2006, the hold-all that’s no longer on the market but is now practically considered e-Bay gold.
Here’s a brief history of their best and brightest:
This roomy tote launched in 2006 has been seen with Kate Moss, Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Kidman, Demi Moore and so many other bona fide A-listers. It secured its place in history as the Parisian label’s first It bag.
Sac De Jour
This lady-like tote has struck all the right notes. The evening friendly ‘Baby’ size is red carpet worthy, while the oversized tote serves you right through the day. Fun fact: While it’s one of the most wanted styles, it never actually featured in any of Hedi Slimane’s shows, which makes its success a feat in itself.
Could this be a tongue-in-cheek statement from Slimane? The word “blogger” often invokes much ire in the higher echelons of fashion. And this just happens to be the most affordable bag from Saint Laurent’s stable. Coincidence?
The litmus test of an important bag? Limited-edition variations. The Roady received a few makeovers – and the ‘Colorama Roady’ was spotted on Mary-Kate Olsen, Taylor Momsen (Gossip Girl) and Katy Perry too.
That unmissable interlocking logo? Check. Slinky metal chain? Check. Magnetic snap closure? Check, check and check! This sleek ‘Kate’ can be carried as a cross body and a shoulder sling.
